The 2024 Trial-Results with ‘Sunbeckia’ varieties are very encouraging! Good feedback came from the
- Colorado State University Annual Trials
- Welby Gardens Summer Trials
- Pennsylvania State University Trials
- Cincinnati Zoo Annual Plant Trial Program
The CSU Annual Trials 2024
At the CSU Annual Trials two ‘Sunbeckia’ varieties have been named and designated in the 2024 BEST OF WINNERS report. Text out of CSU 2024 “Best of” Annual
‘Sunbeckia Marilyn’ (in ground)
It is hard to pick just one of the SunBeckias!
Marilyn showed great uniformity, and was floriferous, boasting a long-lasting canopy of flowers on well branched plants. The large, bright sunshine yellow flowers develop a hint of cinnamon brown near the eye as they age, creating a dynamic flower display. Absolutely a hit with pollinators!
‘Sunbeckia Caramel’ (in container)
Who doesn’t love a good caramel candy?!
Another award winner from the Bull Plant Genetics SunBeckia lines. This rudbeckia sports a unique caramel flower color, with the outer edges having a warm rich, deep yellow-ish brown color, having a deep reddish-brown eye. As the long-lasting flowers age, these colors develop into a nice overall caramel color. The plants are relatively compact keeping the plants from lodging. Another great Sunbeckia to consider.
Welby Gardens Trial 2024
The Welby Gardens Summer Trials are one of the big trial events in the US horticulture world. Comparing 700 varieties, evaluating 365 votes from industry professionals and maintaining the whole trial throughout the summer season is more than just taking care of the front yard.
Thanks for the trial and this great job! Below you find four of our entries in the Top 20.

Some more impressions from the Welby Gardens Summer Trial 2024

The PennState 2024 Summer Trial showed some great rates with 5 points in July 2 and July 30. Unfortunately the later days in August and September have brought up some Mildew which caused some quality problems. Up to July 30 the following varieties performed great with full score of 5 points:
The above plants are impressing with a
- great flowering and bud-count
- impressive big flowers on
- ‘Luna’
- ‘Marilyn’
- exciting double flower on ‘Graffiti Caramel’
- nice habbit of the full plant
