Rudbeckia ‘Sunbeckia’ at the Cincinnati Zoo

Planting  and trialing Rudbeckia ‘Sunbeckia’ at the Cincinnati Zoo was initiated by Jordan Holtkamp / Eason Horticulture Resources. With a very sensitive feeling for landscaping and gardening the Garden team from the Cincinnati Zoo created great displays and beds.

They Cincinnati Zoo annual plant trial program stands out as they collaborate with plant breeders, wholesale growers, and brokers to display annual plants in the Zoo gardens, attracting landscapers, garden centers, and plant enthusiasts.

Here a comment on the Rudbeckia ‘Sunbeckia’ from Bull Plant Genetics

• The Rudbeckia ‘Sunbeckia Graffiti’ series from Bull Plant Genetics is quite remarkable. It features large blooms, some of which are double flowers, in distinctive colors and boasts an extended blooming period lasting several months. Popular colors are Cherry, Scarlet, and Caramel, along with ‘Sunbeckia Marilyn’.

The new and vibrant ‘Sunbeckia’ varieties pair beautifully with Salvias, Coleus, Verbena, Lantana, and Grasses.

Traditional Rudbeckia ‘Sunbeckia’ colors

Impressive are also the traditionel ‘Sunbeckia’ varieties in displays. The Cincinnati Zoo used 2024 the varieties:

• ‘Sunbeckia Luna’
  • out of the ‘Sunbeckia Grande’ group
    • see picture on the top / Entrance
• ‘Sunbeckia Marylin’
  • compact type of a ‘Sunbeckia Carolina’
  • very big flowers with 5,5-6″ in diameter
• ‘Sunbeckia Emma’
  • compact growth
  • semidouble flowering
  • super rich flowering
