Starting Rudbeckia ‘Sunbeckia’ production

Hartwig Bull, the owner of Bull Gartenbau and breeder of the Rudbeckia ‘Sunbeckia’ is starting just now his Rudbeckia ‘Sunbeckia’ production.

They put full focus on the Rudbeckia ‘Sunbeckia’ production, after the last bedding plants have been moved out.

In wk 19 the first transplant for the 2023 ‘Sunbeckia’ production was done.

Bull’s last year’s investment in a Tiger XXL forklift for transportation and spacing can be used this year from begin on. In the final analysis, this Tiger XXL is a tool which pays off.

Increase of efficiency 100% and more

No more transplanting on the field. All the planting is done in the shed and after that the plants are transported with the Tiger XXL to the field.

According to Hartwig Bull is the increase of productivity in transplanting is about 100% and more.

About 50% of the workers are doing the same job under better conditions and in less time. This will pay off the investment easily.

The workflow is just perfect and with the automation the workers have less physical exertition and after all it is this good for their performance.

Below you see the way of working until wk 22/2022

The increase of productivity will be even more, when it comes to filling the pots for the Echinacea ‘SunMagic’. While ‘Sunbeckia’ are grown in 1 gal containers (21cm), the Echinacea are all produced in 15cm and 19cm pots.

Progress in growing after 1 week

Only one week after transplanting the liners, the plants start already growing. The center of the plant shows already new expanding foliage.

Starting Rudbeckia ‘Sunbeckia’ production is expecting in 8 weeks a field like this:
