What means: “Echinacea ‘SunMagic’ – Working on Sunshine”? Well it means we at Bull Plant Genetics are working on the bright shining Echinacea ‘SunMagic’.
Breeding and Trialing
Breeding is one side of the story, but testing is the other side. So all varieties need to be tested in production trials and beside the new cultivars, all established varieties need to be trialed year after year. Only this way the very best finds it’s way to the market. All in all for bringing only best Material to the market.
As can be seen, this includes also our in ground overwinter trials to determine the hardiness.
Besides the overwinter trials in our area, we appreciate the overwinter trials at the Colorado State University and the Penn-State University.
The goals in breeding
The goals in breeding are:
- uniformity in production
- self branching
- flowering in the 1st year
- hardiness to zone 5
- perfect garden performance for landscaping
- lot of “flower-power”
- horizontal flower shape
- different flower-types
