In week 10 we did a Mandevilla ‘Bella’ tour in Spain. This tour gave us some nice impressions about Kientzler’s Mandevilla ‘Bella’.
The below picture shows some benches with ‘Bella Compact Red’ (‘Bella Scarlet’ in the U.S.)
Our first stop brought us to some nice 11cm / 4.5″ production
Plants in 11cm / 4.5″ pots are great plants
- in window boxes
- planted in ground beds in gardens
- planted in beds on cemeteries (Austria, Switzerland and Germany)
Particulary in the south of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France consumers love this product. The good dry-resistance and low maintanance at last in sunmer, makes this cultivar to a real ‘Game Changer’.
The ‘Bella Compact Red’ in 11cm (4.5″) pots
The ‘Bella Compact Red’ which is the ‘Bella Scarlet’ in the U.S. is a great performer in 11 – 12cm pots. The compact habit can be usefull also in bigger pots and baskets.
‘Bella Pink 2019’ – the universal pink Mandevilla
A big flower, a good root-system, as can seen on the picture and good branching makes the ‘Bella Pink 2019’ to a reliable variety in any production. With some extra PGR this universal variety fits perfect in a 11cm / 4.5″ pot program.
‘Bella White Impr.’ – some days later, but a great performer!
The branching of the ‘Bella White Impr.’ is superb with a great bud count. ‘Bella White Impr.’ is universal like the ‘Pink 2019’ and can be grown in any pot size.
The second stop
Our second stop brought us to a very unique grower with some unique plants. The consistant use of beneficial insects and other supplementals show a great effect on the product.
Focus on roots
Your root-system is the “motor” of the plant as a result of that watch for
- good substrate with lots of air
- good drainage
- support the root growth by
- right fertilization strategy
- use supplementals supporting root growth

Special shapes with ‘Bella’
As can be seen in the following, Mandevilla ‘Bella’ is without doubt good in special products as well. Products such as Pyramids, Arcos, Trellis, and Hanging-Baskets can be grown with ‘Bella’ from Kientzler.
Hanging Baskets
With the right techniques you can produce very nice hanging baskets also with compact varieties. In view of plant shape, the compact varieties producing a full and attractive basket.

This last visit shows some more products, ways of growing and compared to the above some more varieties out of the ‘Bella’ assortment.
“Hanging Pyramids”
13cm / 5.5″ pots with Mini Trellis
Looking for a great white Mandevilla – go for ‘Bella Luna’
White is a important color in the whole mix. Seeing that it is worth looking clother on the relatively new ‘Bella Luna’.
From our point of view is the ‘Bella Luna’ a great addition to the ‘Bella White Impr.’
‘Bella Luna’ is a little earlier than the ‘White Impr.’ and has a more “slim” growth.
This new white fits perfectly into a “Combi-Pot” program.

After all, this ‘Bella’ Tour in Spain showed that the ‘Bella’ Breeding program from Kientzler / Innovaplant is on the right way. Varieties with
- good branching
- strong colors
- heat tolerance
- low maintaines costs
- less pinching
- less growth regulating
